Diabetes and Obesity

Obesity is usually caused by an underlying disease of increased bodily fat accumulation. It has a significant detrimental effect on health, particularly by increasing the risk of other chronic conditions including heart disease and diabetes. Obesity is characterized as having a BMI of more than 30 kg/m2. Obesity is one of the most common diseases in developed countries, and its prevalence is continuously increasing.

Obese people are more likely to acquire type 2 diabetes, also known as insulin-resistant diabetes or adult-onset diabetes. This is a condition in which your blood glucose level remains high for an extended period of time. Obese people are up to 80 times more likely than non-obese persons to develop type 2 diabetes, according to research.
