Title : Management of vesicovaginal fistula in advanced gynaecological cancer patient with innovative device
Abstract:
Introduction: Vesicovaginal Fistula (VVF) is an abnormal opening between the urinary bladder and vagina that result in continuous, involuntary dribbling (incontinence) of urine from the vagina. It is a common complication reported in advance gynaecological cancer conditions. Radiotherapy is common cause of VVF, due to pelvic radiation. The treatment for VVF is mainly surgical, in acute cases. But in advance cases surgical repair is not feasible due to recurrence of the disease. Patients are emotionally, psychological and socially disturbed due to continue dribbling of the urine from the fistula. Standard catherization is not feasible in such patients. There is no treatment discovered instead of catheterization in literature for advance patients. In order to deal with such complication an innovative device was designed which would limit the flow of urine from the fistula. The device helped the patient to have a better quality of life
