Biography:
Valdir Florencio da Veiga Junior holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering obtained at Rio de Janeiro Federal University (UFRJ). Worked in pharmaceutical, food and textiles industrial areas. MA and PhD in organic chemistry (UFRJ) was obtained studying Amazonian medicinal plants. He published 17 patents, one book, 45 book chapters, about 180 articles (with more than 7,000 citations) in refereed journals (H index = 35) and over 200 papers in conference proceedings. Other attributions were Coordinator of the Graduate Chemistry course at and member of the Thematic Committee to Reference Standards for Herbal Products in the Brazilian Pharmacopoeia, coordinated by ANVISA, the Brazilian governmental institution with similar attributions of US FDA. The research in chemical engineering applied to natural products chemistry has the emphasis on the use of oils, resins and upscaling the isolation processes of terpenes and alkaloids for medicinal purposes
