Title : Development and evaluation of anti-microbial activity of polyherbal ayurvedic dhoop an in vitro study

Abstract:

Microorganisms are ubiquitous and present everywhere around us, amongst them only 20-25% are non-pathogenic. The disease-causing microorganisms are also present in our environment and causes infections. Ayurveda affirms that health is the balanced and dynamic integration between environmental, body, mind and spirit. Indoor air environment consists more of the pathogenic organisms due to the proximity to human activities and enclosed area. It represents an essential micro-environment in which the people spend a large part of their time each day. Clean air is one of the basic requirements for the wellbeing of human being. The concept of air pollution is clearly mentioned in Ayurveda under the concept of Janapadodhwamsa and Visha chikitsa.Sushruta in kalpa sthana has explained about the Dushita vayu(vitiated air) and treatment for Vayushudhiprakara(purification Of air) through a process of Dhoopana(fumigation). Dhoop sticks, commonly used in traditional Indian rituals, release aromatic smoke believed to purify the environment and promote well- being. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of specific herbs in exhibiting antimicrobial activity, antiseptic herbs, mind calming fragnance, refreshing air, purifying smoke and many other benefits. Herbs like Patha, Guggulu and Eucalyptus oil purifies the air by reducing the presence of harmful airborne pathogens. Addition with that Guggulu in Ayurveda known for clearing negativity energies, supporting mental clarity,Ginger and Eucalyptus oil have stimulating properties that promote alertness contributing to more balanced and harmonious mental state.Bharangi , Ginger and Eucalyptus oils are also known for their decongestant and anti-inflammatory effects these help clear nasal passages, so this makes dhoopstick beneficial for those with respiratory sensitivities, asthma or allergies also.
