Title : Studies on effect of method of preparation and solvents on in vitro performance of solid dispersions of Fenofibrate
Abstract:
Solid dispersion technology is the science of dispersing one or more active ingredients in an inert matrix in the solid stage to achieve an increased dissolution rate or sustained release of drug, altered solid state properties and improved stability. Fenofibrate (FNO), a pro-drug of fenofibric acid, is used for the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia, mixed dyslipidaemia and hypercholesterolemia, since it can reduce the blood triglyceride levels, total cholesterol, and low-density lipoprotein levels belongs to BCS class II. The objectives of present investigation were to prepare solid dispersions of fenofibrate with PEG6000 by solvent evaporation technique and antisolvent precipitation techniques by using different solvents and to investigate the effect of method of preparation and solvent on solubility, dissolution, solid state characterization and stability of fenofibrate.
