Title : Strategy for climate crisis: An “artificial forest” model

Abstract:

The International Panel on Climate Change concluded that climate change has been caused by human activities that have produced CO2 since The Industrial Revolution. Thus, it is clear that climate change has been induced by the accumulated CO2 in the atmosphere. Eventually, glaciers are melting rapidly, and the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) News announced on July 4, 2022, that at least seven people have been killed after being caught in an avalanche sparked by the collapse of a glacier in the northern Italian Alps. None denying that serious climate changes have already occurred worldwide. Therefore, the concept of the carbon-neutral society by 2050 is obviously too late, although it seems to be very hard to achieve this social project. Even though the carbon-neutral society could achieve right now, the accumulated CO2 in the atmosphere has been still left on the earth, resulting in gradually increased serious disasters. Although renewable energy sources, including solar radiation, wind power, and nuclear power, can result in reduced CO2 emissions, these renewable energy sources do not remove CO2 that has already accumulated in the atmosphere, nor do they address the ongoing generation of CO2 from exhaust gases and industrial sources. Contrary, our developed method for CO2 fixation and storage can capture efficiently the atmospheric CO2, using low concentrations of NaOH and CaCl2. This method converts CO2 to CaCO3, which exists naturally as limestone and coral, without environmental concerns. A large chamber comprising spray nozzles to capture CO2 efficiently by mists or droplets of NaOH solution has been designed. Furthermore, a polytunnel made of polyethylene sheets, an “artificial forest” model, which allows CO2 penetration instead of the chamber has been proposed. This model is definitely practical and economical for direct air capture. Moreover, CO2 fixation could be achieved without any external addition of chemicals using seawater instead of NaCl electrolysis, which produces NaOH, and CaCl2.  Thus, our developed method is consistent with the sustainable development goals (SDGs) to prevent the beautiful blue planet, Earth, from miserable ruin. It is time for Human being to choose our precious Earth or economic prosperity.
