Title : Greenspectrophotometric analysis of selected drugs using potassium iodate oxidation
Abstract:
The aim of this research is to explore the reaction between Aminoglycoside gentamicin antibiotic and potassium iodate (KIO3) and potassium iodide (KI), it is found that Gentamicin is oxidized by bromate producing iodine that undergoes complexation of iodide to form colored triiodide. The absorbance of triiodide (I3-) was measured using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. A series of reaction mixtures were prepared with varying gentamicin concentrations, ranging from 0 to 1000 µL. The mixtures were incubated at 50°C for 30 minutes, during which a pink-to-reddish color developed, with higher dopamine concentrations producing more intense coloration. The absorbance of each mixture was measured using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer, allowing for the generation of a calibration curve. The quantitative method was validated in terms of precision and accuracy, and was compared with reference methods. The proposed method is considered as a green method for the assay of gentamicin.
