Abstract:
The sol–gel method has been employed to synthesis undoped and Zn-doped CuO nanostructure. The structural and morphological properties are analyzed and characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transformation infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD and FTIR results confirm the synthesis of CuO monoclinic structure., The average crystallite sizeis dependent on %Zn doping CuO film and incorporation of %Zn content change of preferential orientation of CuO film from (111) plane to (002) plane. The optical properties are investigated by UV–vis spectrophotometer. The incorporation of Zn into CuO has resulted in a significant increasing in optical transmittance accompanied by increased optical band gap from 1.74 eV to 2.19 eV for 12 at% of Zn. The (RMS) roughness measured by atomic force microscopy (AFM) decreases from 5.86 nm for pure CuO nanostructure to 4.2nm for Zn at % doped sample. The wetting properties are investigated using water contact angle measurements, revealing a transition from a slightly hydrophobic regime for CuO nanostructure to more hydrophilic behavior after incorporation of Zn.SEM has illustrated a granular morphology with grains of varying dimensions.
