Title : Formulation and evaluation of mood refreshing lozenges
Abstract:
The aim of the present work was to develop the mood refreshing lozenges and their evaluation. Lozenges are palatable unit dosage form administrated in the oral cavity, which is the most common route and easiest way of administering a drug and have a bright future as novel method of delivering drug for local and systemic effect. The benefit of the medicated lozenges is they increase the retention time of dosage form in oral cavity which increase the bioavailability and reduce the first pass metabolism. The mood refreshing lozenges is useful in the treatment of bipolar disorder and easy to administer the patient having difficulty in swallowing pills suffered from bipolar disorder. The ingredient which is used for the preparation of mood refreshing lozenges is Ashwagandha, Mucuna prurines, sucrose, starch maize powder, propyl paraben, peppermint oil, xanthan gum. A total of 4 formulation were made with varying concentration of starch maize powder and xanthan gum. The formulation was evaluated by several test like thickness, hardness, disintegration, weight variation etc. the formulation F2 having varying concentration of xanthan gum and starch maize powder showed significant result in comparison to other formulation. The outcome of the present studies revealed that mood refreshing lozenges can prepared easily from the herbal ingredient having mood stabilizing activity.
