Abstract:
The Photobiomodulation Mechanism (PBM) to treat Dry Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy disease, at the cellular level, has been attributed to the activation of components of the mitochondrial respiratory chain resulting in the stabilization of metabolic function and the initiation of a signaling cascade, which promotes cell proliferation and cytoprotection. PBM works by absorbing photons by photoreceptors in the target tissue. Once absorbed, secondary cellular effects include increases in energy production and changes in signaling modalities such as reactive oxygen species, nitric oxide, and cellular calcium. Cellular changes occur through the activation of transcription factors leading to modulation in protein synthesis, proliferation and, ultimately, better cell survival.
Audeince Take Away Notes:
- The specialized medical audience will be able to use this technique to improve thetreatment of retinal diseases, such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy
- This treatment can help by understanding a new type of laser for medical treatment, inthe specialty of ophthalmology
- Without a doubt, they will be able to use this laser mechanism to continue research.
- This new therapeutic laser can solve problems in the retina, which were previouslymore difficult to solve.
- Yes, it provides new information. No problems or adverse effects have been proven so far.
