Biography:
J. Novak graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University in Pilsen in 1964. In 1973 he passed the attestation of internal medicine and in 1975 of sports medicine. He completed a specialization course for Olympic team doctors. Between 1981 and 1989, he worked in Prague as the head of the functional laboratory for elite sports at the Research Institute of Physical Education. In 2015, he received his Ph.D. for the study "Cardiorespiratory capacity of sporting population". He currently works at the Department of Sports Medicine and Active Health Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Pilsen. He is interested in lifestyle issues, adaptation to the cold and benefits and risks of endurance and ultramarathon performances.
