Cellular components are the intricate biomolecules and structures that make up cells and, by extension, all living things. The basic building blocks of life are cells. The tiniest living things are single cells, while the biggest are collections of billions of cells. Nearly all live cells have DNA, and each cell has chromosomes with a unique DNA sequence. [Needs citation] Examples include macromolecules like proteins and nucleic acids, biomolecular structures like membranes and organelles, and biomolecular complexes like a ribosome. Some cellular components may be present in extracellular regions of an organism, despite the fact that the bulk are found inside the cell itself. Biological matter or biological material are other names for cellular components. The majority of biological stuff exhibits soft matter properties and is regulated by comparatively low energies. Biological matter is the basis of all known life. Such life may be referred to as carbon-based, cellular, organic, biological, or even just living - although some definitions of life exclude hypothetical types of biochemistry - to be distinguished from other hypothetical or fictitious life forms.
