Plastics are a kind of substance that can be moulded while still being flexible and then hardened to maintain its shape. Today, cellulose, coal, natural gas, salt, and crude oil—all substances that may be found in nature—are the primary ingredients used to produce plastics. The creation of plastics, which are processed from ethane and propane, requires a variety of basic ingredients. Ethane and propane are then heated, causing a process known as "cracking," which turns them into ethylene and propylene, respectively. By connecting together chains of molecules referred to as monomers to generate a bigger molecule than was initially present, plastics are polymers a polymer. Such a material includes polystyrene. Polymers are durable and strong.
