Dental surgery is a branch of dental medicine which involves surgical procedures related to the teeth and jaw. It’s a specialized field which is necessary for fixing common dental problems including tooth extraction, crowns, bridges, dentures, root canals, and veneers. Dental surgery is a major part of routine dental care and is performed to keep the teeth and gums healthy as well as improve aesthetics. Tooth extraction is the most common type of dental surgery performed. It may be done if the tooth is severely damaged or decayed, or if the person has a crowded mouth and needs some teeth removed to make room for the others. Despite its intimidating name, tooth extraction is a relatively common and quick procedure. Dental implants are another type of dental surgery which are used when a tooth can’t be saved. The replacement tooth is fused to the jawbone and functions like a real tooth, giving the person back their full chewing ability. Root canals are a type of dental surgery which is done to treat an infection or decay that is deep within the tooth. During a root canal, the dentist removes the pulp (inner nerves of the tooth) and replaces it with a filling, often made of metal or plastic. This helps to prevent further decay of the tooth and allows the person to keep their tooth without any further complications. Other types of dental surgery include bridges, veneers, and crowns for cavities, cracked or chipped teeth, and malformed teeth. In some cases, dentists may also perform cosmetic procedures such as teeth-whitening and jawbone reconstruction. No matter what type of dental surgery is required, it’s important to seek treatment from a qualified and experienced dentist. This will ensure that the surgery is done without complications and that the results will be successful. Dental surgery is a major part of routine dental care and is necessary for keeping teeth and gums healthy.
