Injury To The Teeth Or Jaw

Injury To The Teeth Or Jaw

Injuries to teeth or jaw are some of the most common dental problems affecting many individuals. Tooth injuries can occur due to falls, sports trauma, automotive accidents, or physical assault. Jaw injuries, on the other hand, can be more serious and can cause pain and increase the risk of complications. The most common type of injury involving the jaw or teeth is a fracture. A fracture may range from mild to severe, depending on the amount of force that has been applied to the tooth or jaw. A mild fracture may involve small cracks on the teeth which may cause sensitivity. In contrast, a more severe fracture can involve chips or larger sections of enamel being knocked out which can damage the inner layers of the teeth and expose the root or nerve of the tooth. Additionally, jaw injuries can also occur due to physical trauma. These types of injuries may involve joint problems, dislocation, and fractures. If left untreated, the jaw can be rendered immobile which may create difficulties in speaking and chewing. The treatment for fractured teeth or jaws depends on the severity of the injury. Dentists can use a variety of techniques to repair the tooth or jaw, such as using crowns, composite fillings, dental implants, or braces in order to restore the strength and aesthetic of the tooth. In cases of fractures or dislocated jaws, teeth may need to be extracted in order to allow the bone to reset or to reduce the need for braces. In the case of severe fractures, the jaw may need to be wired shut in order to allow for healing. To avoid injures to teeth and jaws, it is important to wear a mouthguard during contact sports and always practice proper safety techniques when engaging in physical activities. In addition, regular visits to the dentist will ensure that any signs of decay or damage are noticed and can be treated quickly and effectively. Overall, injuries to the jaw and teeth can be very serious and require immediate attention. While prevention is always best, if an injury does occur, it is important to seek professional help to ensure that proper treatment is administered and the injury is healed properly.
