Dentures are an important part of dentistry and are used to replace missing teeth. They are removable prosthetic devices that are custom-made to fit the patient’s mouth, allowing them to eat and speak normally. There are several types of dentures available, each suited to the individual’s needs. Complete dentures are used to replace all of the teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. They are made of acrylic resin and held in place by suction or a denture adhesive. If the jawbone has deteriorated, implant-supported dentures may be a better option. These are dentures that are anchored to several dental implants placed in the jawbone, providing increased stability and comfort. Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. They are made of metal and acrylic and fit between the remaining teeth. They are held in place by metal clasps that fit around the natural teeth. Immediate dentures are placed in the mouth immediately after the extraction of the teeth, and are used to give the patient a full set of teeth while the gums heal. This type of denture is a temporary solution and may need to be replaced after the gums heal. Overdentures are a type of denture that fits over existing teeth. The teeth are either reshaped or extracted to provide a better fit for the denture. No matter the type of denture, it is important for the patient to practice good oral hygiene to keep the dentures clean and in good condition. It is also important to regularly visit the dentist to make sure the dentures fit properly. With the right care, dentures can last for many years.
