Regenerative Endodontics represents an innovative field within dentistry that focuses on restoring the vitality of damaged dental tissues, particularly the dental pulp. Traditionally, endodontic treatments involve removing the infected or damaged pulp and sealing the root canal with an inert material. In contrast, regenerative endodontics aims to harness the natural healing potential of dental pulp, promoting the regeneration of tissues rather than their replacement. This approach involves disinfecting the root canal system and introducing a combination of growth factors and scaffolding materials to encourage the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells within the pulp. Mesenchymal stem cells present in the dental pulp can differentiate into various cell types, including odontoblasts, which are essential for dentin formation. The ultimate goal is to regenerate functional pulp-dentin complexes, preserving tooth vitality and function. Regenerative endodontics holds significant promise for treating immature teeth with pulp necrosis, traumatic injuries, or dental infections, particularly in pediatric dentistry. Ongoing research in this field aims to optimize protocols, improve outcomes, and expand the applications of regenerative endodontics for more comprehensive dental tissue repair.
