Teeth Clenching

Teeth Clenching

Teeth clenching is an oral habit that has been linked to many dental and physical problems, and is caused by a person's attempt to control muscle tension in the jaw area. This unhealthy habit has been linked to diminishing dental health, and increases the risk of painful teeth and gum conditions. When people clench their teeth, there is a tremendous amount of force applied to the jaw, teeth, and gums. As a result of habitual clenching or grinding, teeth can become worn down, shortened, or even chipped. Teeth clenching can also lead to cracked fillings, toothaches, jaw pain, headaches, and facial pain. Teeth clenching is often found in people who suffer frequently from stress. It can be a way for a person to cope with their tension or anxiety. However, it can often lead to more problems instead of offering a solution. Teeth clenching has been known to interfere in people's sleep quality, leading to fatigue and other related health issues. In order to prevent the occurrence of teeth clenching, it is important to relax and create stress-free moments during the day. Meditation, exercise, yoga, and muscle relaxation exercises can be very helpful in helping people deal with stress. Additionally, people can consult with their dentist to find out if they need special night guards or dental splints, which can help reduce the pressure applied to the teeth and jaw when one clenches or grinds their teeth. By reducing the amount of stress people experience, they can avoid teeth clenching and its many harmful effects. Additionally, taking good care of our teeth by brushing and flossing regularly and having regular dental check-ups can help prevent further damage to our teeth and gums caused by teeth clenching
