Infections and Supportive Care
Infections and supportive care are critical aspects of hematology, particularly for patients with compromised immune systems. Hematologic diseases and treatments often increase susceptibility to bacterial, viral, and fungal infections. Supportive care includes infection prevention, antimicrobial therapy, transfusions, and symptom management. Early recognition and prompt treatment of infections are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. Advances in prophylactic strategies and supportive therapies have improved survival and quality of life. Multidisciplinary care and evidence-based protocols are central to effective management. Supportive care remains a cornerstone of comprehensive hematologic treatment.
