Abstract:

Obesity has been classified as a chronic disease in recent years. The consequences of the latter on health are varied, ranging from an increased risk of premature death to several fatal diseases. Our study included 45 patients registered at the EPH Djilali Belkhenchir, including 40 women and 5 men, obese and overweight, who followed a low-calorie diet with a caloric deficit of 500Kcal for 1 month. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to their state of health and their degree of glucose tolerance, normal-glycemic, glucose intolerant and diabetic. Our results reveal that subjects aged [50-59 years] are the most affected by obesity, with a female predominance. The majority of these cases present with class II obesity, with a high waist-to-hip ratio which is dominant in the female population with a high rate of fat mass. This work demonstrated the potential benefits of a low-calorie diet on the anthropometric parameters and metabolic changes associated with obesity, including glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes, dyslipidaemia and cardiovascular complications.
