Personalized medicine, also known as precision medicine, is intended to differentiate tailored treatment from trial and error. Precision medicine relies on the collection of a large amount of data and biospecimens (such as blood, urine, saliva, and health surveys) as well as access to individual health records. Precision medicine is the application of basic research on human variation at the individual and population level to improve disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment accuracy and precision.
