Lifestyle medicine is a discipline of medicine that studies, prevents, treats, and cures diseases caused by factors such as nutrition, physical inactivity, and chronic stress. Lifestyle medicine focuses on educating and persuading patients to modify their own habits and behaviors around the use of a whole food, plant-based diet, restorative sleep, regular physical activity, substance abuse, stress management and positive social connections. Physicians' lack of preparedness and skepticism about their patients' receptivity are key hurdles to lifestyle counselling in the clinic. Within the essential reforms in present healthcare systems and public health policies, the effective implementation of lifestyle medicine should be a top priority.
