The basic goals of asthma treatment are to improve asthma symptom control and decrease the likelihood of exacerbations while reducing drug side effects. A person with well-controlled asthma is expected to be able to participate in job, school, play, and sports without breathing restrictions. Patient education, reduction of asthma triggers, monitoring for changes in symptoms or lung function, and pharmacologic therapy are the four main components of asthma management. People with asthma can learn to recognise and avoid triggers, as well as educate themselves on drugs and other asthma management techniques. The majority of allergy reactions are mild to moderate in severity and do not create severe problems. A small percentage of patients, however, may develop a severe allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis, which necessitates emergency life-saving medicine. Foods, insects, and pharmaceuticals are examples of allergens that can trigger anaphylaxis.
