Occupational Lung Diseases

Occupational Lung Diseases

Long-term exposure to some irritants in the workplace causes or worsens occupational or work-related lung conditions. Exposure to dust particles, chemicals, fungal spores, and some animal droppings, for example, can raise the chances of developing occupational respiratory infections. Occupational lung disorders have no known remedy. Controlling exposure to lung irritants and receiving therapy can help delay the advancement of the condition, alleviate symptoms, and improve your overall quality of life. Lung disease can be caused or worsened by smoking. Occupational lung disorders are frequently misinterpreted as other non-occupational diseases, but a thorough medical history and suitable testing can lead to an accurate diagnosis. The detection of many occupational lung disorders can greatly improve prognosis and lead to preventative steps for other employees. The primary technique for reducing the burden of occupational lung illness is prevention. Toxicant removal, substitution with a less toxic substance, or exposure reduction with or without the use of a respirator are all options for prevention.  Simply by diagnosing and reporting disease, the health-care worker plays a critical role in disease prevention.
