Obstructive Lung Disease

Obstructive Lung Disease

Airway obstruction is a symptom of obstructive lung disease, which is a type of respiratory disease. Many obstructive lung diseases are caused by narrowing (obstruction) of the smaller bronchi and larger bronchioles, which is commonly caused by excessive smooth muscle contraction. Inflammated and readily collapsible airways, restriction to airflow, trouble exhaling, and frequent medical clinic visits and hospitalizations are all common symptoms. Asthma, bronchiectasis, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are examples of obstructive lung illness (COPD). Although COPD shares some characteristics with all other obstructive lung illnesses, such as coughing and wheezing, they are diverse in terms of disease start, symptom frequency, and airway blockage reversibility. Obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) sometimes includes cystic fibrosis. Depending on the type of obstructive condition being identified, numerous aspects must be considered. One thing they all have in common is a FEV1/FVC ratio of less than 0.7, which means they can't exhale 70% of their breath in one second.
