Climate technologies are technologies that we utilise to combat climate change. Renewable energies such as wind, solar, and hydropower are examples of climate technology that assist us reduce GHG emissions. We use climate technologies like drought-resistant crops, early warning systems, and sea walls to adapt to the negative effects of climate change. There is also so-called "soft" climate technology, such as energy-saving techniques or equipment training. From the start of the UNFCCC process, developing and sharing technologies to enable national climate action has been a critical component. Technology creation and transfer in the context of adaptation has gotten a lot of attention throughout the years. The Paris Agreement outlines a goal of fully implementing technological development and transfer in order to improve climate change resilience while also lowering GHG emissions. It develops a technology framework to give the Technology Mechanism with overarching guidelines.
