Human Studies and Tissue Imaging

Proteomics is the study of the function and structure of proteins in order to comprehend the nature of an organism. The proteome of a cell reflects the local environment in which it is investigated, and several proteomics techniques can be used to identify the "set" of proteins within a cell, allowing for the creation of an intricate map of the cell and the precise position of individual proteins. Mass spectrometry is a critical method for analysing protein profiles in cells. Proteomics, rather than genomes, provides a deeper grasp of the structure and function of the organism. The human genome, on the other hand, is thought to code for around 26000-31000 proteins. Imaging mass spectrometry (IMS, also known as mass spectrometry imaging (MSI)) is a useful method for determining the spatial distribution of biomolecules in a given tissue. A probe, such as a laser, ion beam, or liquid junction, is rastered across a surface in an IMS experiment to desorb or extract biomolecules, which are then directly evaluated by mass spectrometry (MS).
