Physiome & Protein Structure Prediction

Physiome & Protein Structure Prediction

The term "physiome" is derived from the words "physio" (life) and "ome" (whole) and refers to a "quantitative description of physiological dynamics and functional behavior of the intact organism." The physiological state of an individual or species is described by its physiome, which is a description of its functional behavior. The physiome is based on information and structure and describes the physiological processes of a healthy intact organism (genome, proteome, and morphome).

Protein structure prediction is the inference of a protein's three-dimensional structure from its amino acid sequence, or the prediction of a protein's secondary and tertiary structure given its primary structure. The inverse problem of protein design is not the same as structure prediction. One of the most important goals pursued by computational biology is protein structure prediction, which is important in medicine (for example, drug design) and biotechnology (for example, in the design of novel enzymes).
