Conversely, nutrient-rich diets, particularly those that include omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, can promote better mental well-being. The gut-brain axis also plays a crucial role, as the gut microbiota produces neurotransmitters like serotonin, which influence mood. Nutritional psychiatry aims to identify dietary interventions that can improve mental health outcomes, offering a potential complementary approach to traditional psychiatric treatments. By addressing both physical and mental health through diet, this research has the potential to revolutionize the treatment and prevention of mental disorders.
